Eclipse Sucks the Box Office Competition Dry

Surprise, surprise — Eclipse continued its hot streak at the box office, taking home the holiday weekend crown and raking in $69 million (the film has made $161 million since its midnight opening on Wednesday). The Last Airbender had a decent debut weekend as well: despite harsh reviews, the action adventure took in a respectable $40.6 million.

Toy Story 3 was bumped to third but still made a healthy $30.1 million, while Grown Upssettled for fourth place with $18.5 million. Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz stayed in the top five with Knight and Day's $10.2 million. Though it's been a slow Summer for movies, the holiday weekend proved to be better than most — Eclipse had the third best Fourth of July weekend opening in history. Never underestimate the power of Edward Cullen.

Robert Pattinson Keeps His Coffee Close For a Night Shoot

Robert Pattinson had a late one last night on the LA set of Water for Elephants. He spent all afternoon working with his costar Reese Witherspoon, who was still decked out in a glamorous red satin dress. Rob is focusing on his project with Reese while his movie with Kristen Stewart,Eclipse, keeps raking in the cash at the box office — it's already earned $121 million since its Wednesday opening. Many of you were excited to see Rob and Kristen's Summer blockbuster, and the reviews, including Buzz's, seem to agree it's the best Twilight film yet.

Top Ten Reasons to See Eclipse, Again!

1. The Cullen Clan.  Spending The Twilight Saga: New Moon in the shadows, The Family we have come to love and adore is back and ready to fight in Eclipse!  With interesting back stories from Jasper (Jackson Rathbone) and Rosalie (Nikki Reed), fans are treated with a more in-depth look into the lives of vampires.
2. Vampire Newborns.  With their intriguing red beady eyes, the newborn vampires offer the plot an interesting side story.
3. RPatty.  The camera loves Robert Pattinson and when the soft light embraces his face, your alliances for werewolves will waver.  Plus, The Twilight Saga: New Moon lacked major screen time from the star, but he more than makes up for it in Eclipse.
4. Love Triangle.  Admit it; the torrid love triangle between Edward, Bella, and Jake drives you to see the film multiple times.
5. Massive Lutz.  The actor got jacked to play the role of Emmet Cullen and he looks good! Taylor Lautner might spend a great deal of the film shirtless, but the strong presence of Emmet's muscles made audience members swoon.
6. Kstew.   Brilliant in this film, her angelic mannerisms are definitely worth emulating.
7. Direction.  Eclipse director David Slade raised the bar for the Twilight Saga with his brilliant filmmaking ability.  The film, which is largely focuses on close-ups of the characters, gives the viewers The Feeling of being in all the action. 
8. Scenery.  Filmed outside Vancouver, Canada, the sweeping vistas are breathtaking and will surely boost tourism up north.
9. Shirtless Taylor.  Even if you are Team Edward, the site of Taylor Lautner's perfect abs will have you daydreaming of werewolves!
10. Charlie St. Cloud Trailer.  Before Eclipse even begins fans are treated to a bevy of new films that are on the helm of premiering, one of which stars High School Musical star Zac Efron.  His new film Charlie St. Cloud (2010) which comes out in August and promises to be a must see!

Jackson Rathbone Is Eclipse’s Most Improved Vampire Actor!

EW.com has a new article crowing EclipseVampire Jackson Rathbone (aka Jasper Hale) as the Twilight Saga – Eclipse most improved Vampire actor -

After noting in just about every Twilight Saga: Eclipse item I wrote leading up to film’s release that I was pleasantly surprised to not be laughing at Jasper Cullen, I feel the need to publicly crown actor Jackson Rathbone Most Improved Vampire Actor. To be fair to him, he didn’t have much to work with in the first two films, and, perhaps, we were evensupposed to chuckle at the hungry look he gave Kristen Stewart in the first movie. (Did we ever decide?) Regardless, he’s great in Eclipse, particularly in the flashback sequence, when we get to enjoy the Southern drawl in his voiceover and watch him make that decision to follow orders. (I kept it vague for spoiler-phobes, but you can talk freely in the comments section.) Does he get your vote? (Nikki Reed could end up being the film’s scene-stealer with Rosalie’s beautifully-acted heart-to-heart with Bella

I do agree with Entertainment Weekly, on both parts. Rosalie’s back story was perfectly played out. I found myself miserable and utterly sad for Rosalie. Nikki Reed really did do a great job with that scene. And the red-eyed, crazy, Rosalie who seeks revenge = perfect.

Jackson Rathbone was stellar as Jasper. His back story was amazing. The fight training was well done, and was exactly how I imagined Jasper to be. He even threw in some humour here and there, and he truly did bring life to Jasper.

An honourable mention — Kellan Lutz as Emmet Cullen. I personally found that Kellan really channelled Emmett in this movie. I know that Kellan’s role may not contribute as much to the story line as some of the other Cullens, but he really did improve greatly asEmmett. I truly am looking forward to all the banter between Bella and Emmett inBreaking Dawn! Can we say arm wrestle?! I think we can!!

LA Times Predicts That Eclipse Will Make More Than 180 Million By Monday!

LA Times has a new article predicting that Eclipse will hit the 180 million mark by Monday -

Hollywood is looking for box office fireworks over the July 4 weekend.Like the last two movies based on Stephenie Meyer’s fan favorite vampire books, “The Twilight Sage: Eclipse,” which debuted Wednesday, is set to draw hordes of young women this weekend and should generate about $180 million in the U.S. and Canada by the national holiday Monday.

In the case of “Twilight,” distributor Summit Entertainment has virtually guaranteed the third adaption of the bestselling books will rack up a huge box office tally in its first week by opening it this week. “Eclipse” grossed a record $30million-plus in midnight shows Tuesday night. By Monday, most of the series’ fervent fans will likely see the movie at least once.

Last November’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” grossed $179 million in the U.S. and Canada by its sixth day and “Eclipse” will likely do at least that much by Monday and possibly as much as $200 million, said people who have seen prerelease surveys. The new film has an advantage over its predecessor given the holiday weekend, the fact that many students are off from school and can go to weekday matinees, and that it is the first “Twilight” movie to play on premium priced Imax screens.

As a result, total receipts for the new film will almost certainly be very front-loaded, with most of its revenue coming in the first week.

“It’s a compressed period during which we expect to do a whole bunch of business,” said Summit domestic distribution president Richard Fay.

It remains to be seen, however, whether “Eclipse” will significantly outperform the $297-million total gross of “New Moon,” or if it will simply be the same “Twilight” fans turning out once again.

Ashley and Xavier Make the Press Rounds Before the London Premiere of Eclipse!

Xavier Samuel and his Eclipse costars Ashley Greene and Nikki Reed were together in London this morning to stop by the Radio 1 studios. The trio is talking up the third Twilight movie before they get fancy to hit the red carpet at tonight's premiere. PopSugar UK will be there reporting live from the scene, so make sure to stay tuned to their Twitter! Xavier and Ashley have been busy all week doing press in Spain and Belgium — the work won't stop for Ashley anytime soon, as she also just signed onto a new project with Miley Cyrus. Nikki, meanwhile, met up with Ashley and Xavier after stopping by Jimmy Kimmel Live in LA. Their film comes out in Britain on July 9, but it's already released and breaking records stateside.
