Robert Pattinson boards Cronenberg's 'Cosmopolis'

'Twilight' thesp to star in futuristic drama

Robert Pattinson has signed on to "Cosmopolis," which David Cronenberg penned and will direct.

Based on the Don DeLillo tome of the same name, story follows a multimillionaire played by Pattinson who risks his entire fortune to bet against the yen on a cataclysmic day.

Cronenberg will also produce along with Paulo Branco. Renee Tab will exec produce.

Pattinson is slowly trying to break away from his "Twilight" fan base and aiming for more adult-driven projects like this and the Francis Lawrence-directed "Water for Elephants," which also stars Reese Witherspoon and Christoph Waltz.

Cronenberg just finished filming "A Dangerous Method" with Viggo Mortensen and Michael Fassbender and had a slew of projects on his plate to pursue next, including an "Eastern Promises" sequel he has been trying to get off the ground for some time now.

Twilight, Natalie, Jennifer, and Johnny Light Up People's Choice Awards!

The People's Choice Awards kicked off a very glamorous upcoming two months with a bang last night. It was a beautiful LA evening for all the stars to step off and celebrate the start ofaward season, the fans, and each other. Queen Latifah was once again the show's hostess, and she got to have fun on stage from start to finish. There were some awesome A-list surprise guests, like Jennifer Aniston, who presented to Just Go With It costar Adam Sandler, and Johnny Depp who gracefully accepted his statue and passed on a hello to Taylor Swift from his daughter. The red carpet was full of short dresses, but one of the night's most sassy minis was Kristen Stewart's Reem Acra. Her makeup and hair were also perfect for the event and made her look bright and happy despite flying straight to the show from a long day of shootingBreaking Dawn in Louisiana. She missed the arrivals line, but showed off her sweet chemistry with Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner accepting Eclipse's handful of wins — check out thefull list on Buzz. Robert gave us a bit of a laugh to close the show, while all three Twilight stars were game for some light teasing from Latifah during an interlude. Kid Rock and Selena Gomez and the Scene provided the musical performances, while Taylor Swift and Katy Perry were the female acts chosen by their fans. Pregnant Natalie Portman flashed a smile and her new engagement ring after meeting up with her Black Swan costar Mila Kunis backstage. Kristen Stewart was all legs in her Reem Acra minidress at tonight's People's Choice Awardsin LA. She took the stage to accept favorite female movie star and she was later joined by Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner to accept two statues for Eclipse. Kristen looked stunning in her sky high heels and sultry makeup despite just coming straight off a flight from theBreaking Dawn set in Louisiana. She gave fans quite the treat when during her acceptance speech she said she was just playing Bella as a vampire this morning! The Twilight trio, Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner, made the trek from the Louisiana set of Breaking Dawn to the People's Choice Awards in LA this evening. Kristen was the first to take the stage when she showed off her amazing legs while accepting best female movie star and Robert gazed adoringly from the front row. Queen Latifah poked a little fun at the popular vampire franchise during an interlude, in which a casually dressed Robert adorably referred to their "posh" private jet transportation. To finish off the night, pregnant Natalie Portman presented Eclipsewith best picture — check out all the winners on Buzz. Robert tried to get Taylor to lead off their acceptance speech, but Pattinson ended up stealing the show with his joke about breaking the phone used to read off their triumph. Rob had more big news this week since it was announced he will be a presenter at the Golden Globes, and he's rumored to have signed on to star in Cosmopolis, based on the Don DeLillo novel.
